The dynamic content setting must be switched on for a user to use it in a Campaign. Please speak to the Helpdesk or your account manager to enable this feature.
Send’s dynamic content allows the user to make Campaigns more engaging by changing content depending on the relevance to each reader. Tags and conditions are added by users to allow this to happen.
For example, you may want to show a different image based on the age range of your recipients. You may also want to present different content, for example, introduction A for recipients in one group and introduction B for recipients of another group.
Please note; if the field you would like to select, as the condition for your dynamic content, doesn’t already exist as a standard contact data field, you can add this as a custom merge tag e.g. ‘Age group’. You will need to do this before creating your dynamic content tag.
Dynamic Content Tags & Conditions
*Please note that the dynamic content cannot exceed 5000 characters for each condition.
Users can add dynamic content to their Campaigns once the dynamic content setting is switched on.
To add dynamic content within a Campaign, click into the section of the campaign where you would like the Dynamic Content to appear. Click on the ‘Insert’ button in the toolbar and select the ‘Dynamic Content’ option.
A list of all the dynamic content tags that have already been created will appear. To add a new tag, click either one of the two ‘Add Tag’ options.
All the rules and conditions of the new dynamic content tag can be added on the next screen or advanced users can enter XSL code.
2.1. Basic Condition Dynamic Content Tag
The three fields; Title, Default Content and Conditions are required to be filled for a new tag to be added.
More than one condition can be added to a tag to give you various options. To add a new condition, select the ‘Add Condition’ option underneath the final condition in the list. A new Conditions entry field will appear below.
To remove a Condition, select the ‘Remove’ option on the particular Condition you want to delete.
When entering Conditions, ensure the correct lettering and capitalisation of words is used to ensure the expected users receive the correct information.
E.g. When entering a Value for ‘Surname Starts With’, ensure the letter is in uppercase not lowercase in the Condition. This is to ensure the data stored in your contact fields in Send match the conditions set.
When all the required fields have been filled, the new tag can be added. Select the ‘Add’ option at the bottom of the screen.
Once the dynamic tag has been created and added, it will be added to the list of existing dynamic content tags.
To use/edit/delete a dynamic content tag, select the blue arrow on the right of the page and select the option you wish to use.
Dynamic Content tags are only saved in the Campaign in which they are created. There will only be dynamic content tags in a new Campaign if a Campaign with dynamic content already present is copied. Dynamic content tags can be present on all pages of a Campaign and when a page is copied the tags created on the initial page will also be copied over.
These Dynamic Content tags should not be treated like Mail Merges as there is always default content to revert back to.
Inserting Images and Links
You can insert images and links into your dynamic content tags in the same way you can in a campaign or survey. To access the editing toolbar, simply click the silver dropdown arrow in the top right of each area.
You will now be able to access all of the features in the toolbar editor.
Click on the image icon on the toolbar to insert an image from your content library.
If you would like to insert a link, simply highlight the relevant text or image and then click on the ‘create link’ icon in the editing toolbar.
